About Unlock
Unlock removes the encryption from a PDF you are entitled to open and saves a copy that opens without a password and without copy, print or edit restrictions. You must supply the correct opening password if the file has one; the tool does not guess or crack passwords. Files that only carry restrictions, with no opening password, can usually be unlocked with the password box left empty.
How to use Unlock

Bank and card statements
Many Indian banks email statements locked with a password built from your name and date of birth, or similar details. Unlocking a copy you keep for your own records saves typing that password every time you open it.

Tips
- Bank statement passwords are usually explained in the email that carried the PDF, often a mix of name letters and birth date in a set order. Read it closely; the order and case matter.
- Only unlock files you have the right to open. The tool exists for your own documents and ones sent to you with the password.
- After unlocking, the copy has no protection at all. If you are going to send it on, consider running Protect again with a new password.
- Delete unlocked copies of sensitive statements from the workspace when you are done, especially on a shared computer.
Limitations
- It cannot recover a forgotten or unknown opening password. There is no brute-force or dictionary attack; without the password the file stays locked.
- Some encryption formats used by enterprise rights-management systems (certificate-based or DRM-wrapped PDFs) are not standard password encryption and will not unlock here.
- Digital signatures in the original file usually become invalid once its encryption is removed and the file is re-saved, so keep the original if signature validation matters.
What happens to your files
The PDF and the password you type are handled by pdf-lib inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and the password is not stored or logged; usage analytics record only that the tool ran and the file extension of the download, never the file name, contents or password. The unlocked copy is placed in the on-device workspace (IndexedDB, files expire after seven days) and downloaded to your device.
