About PDF Info

PDF Info opens a PDF and shows what it says about itself: title, author, subject, the application that created it, the software that produced the PDF, creation and modification dates, page count, page size, file size, and a word and character count of its text. Nothing is changed and no new file is produced.

How to use PDF Info

  1. Drop a PDF onto the tool or pick it from your device. Analysis starts immediately.
  2. Read the four counters at the top: pages, words, characters and file size.
  3. Check Page Size, shown in inches and in PDF points for the first page.
  4. Scroll to Document Metadata for title, author, subject, creator, producer, created and modified dates. A dash means the field is empty.
  5. Use Analyze Another PDF to clear the result and inspect the next file.

When it helps

Checking before you share

Résumés and proposals often carry the author name of whoever first created the template, or a company name from a previous job. Check the Author and Creator fields before sending, and clean them with Remove Metadata if needed.

Telling a scan from a digital PDF

A document that clearly shows text but reports zero words is a scan or photo with no text layer. That tells you search, copy, redaction and Chat with PDF will not work until it is OCR'd.

Meeting portal requirements

Exam and government portals often specify A4 size and a maximum page count. A4 is 8.3 by 11.7 inches (595 by 842 points); Letter is 8.5 by 11 inches.

Rough provenance checks

The Producer field often names the program or library that wrote the file, such as a scanner app, Microsoft Word or a print driver. A modified date long after the claimed issue date is worth a question.

Tips

Limitations

What happens to your files

The PDF is read into browser memory and parsed by pdf-lib and PDF.js on your device. It is not uploaded, not added to the workspace, and not stored anywhere; the results disappear when you analyse another file or leave the page.

View Title, Author, Creator, Producer and Dates

File Studio's PDF inspector shows the document properties stored in the file: title, author, subject, the original authoring application (Creator), the software that produced the PDF (Producer), and the creation and modification dates. This helps when you are checking where a PDF came from, which program made it, or whether personal details are sitting in its properties before you share it.

Inspect Page Count and File Attributes

Beyond metadata, the inspector displays practical file attributes: total page count, the size of the first page in inches and points, the file size, and a word and character count of the text layer. A word count of zero on a PDF that clearly shows text is a quick sign that it is a scan with no text layer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see the hidden properties of a PDF?
Upload your file to File Studio's PDF Info tool. It lists the title, author, subject, creator, producer, creation and modification dates, page count, first-page size, file size, and a word and character count of the text layer.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
Is File Studio completely free?
Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
Does it work on mobile and tablet?
Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
