Edit PDF — Add Text, Whiteout and Highlight, Free and Private

Edit PDF free in your browser: add text, white out mistakes, highlight, draw and add images. No upload, no watermark, no sign-up.

About Edit PDF

Edit PDF lets you write on top of an existing PDF: type new text, white out mistakes, highlight, underline or strike through words, draw, add shapes, ticks and crosses, and place images. It also has a Find panel that can mark every match of a word or pattern, such as all phone numbers or PAN numbers, in one go.

How to use Edit PDF

  1. Open a PDF. Pages appear in a scrolling view; use the zoom buttons or the percentage button to fit the width.
  2. Pick a tool from the toolbar: Text (T), White-out (W), Highlight (H), Draw (D), Rectangle (R), Ellipse (O), Line (L), Arrow (A), Image (I), Checkmark (K) or Cross (X). Select / move (V) lets you drag and resize what you have added.
  3. Adjust the selected object in the properties bar: colour, font (Helvetica, Times or Courier), size, bold and italic for text, and width for lines. Match style copies the size, colour and font of text you tap on the page; Match page fills white-out with the page colour next to the box.
  4. To mark many words at once, open Find (Ctrl+F), type text or a regular expression, or choose a preset such as Emails, Phones, Dates, Amounts, URLs, Aadhaar or PAN, pick Highlight, Underline or Strike and a colour, then apply it to all matches.
  5. Use Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Y) freely, then click Save & download. The edited copy is also added to your Workspace.

When it helps

Filling a form that has no fillable fields

Government and college forms are often flat PDFs. Place Text boxes on the lines, use Checkmark or Cross for the boxes, and add a photo or signature image with the Image tool.

Correcting a typo in a final PDF

Cover the wrong figure with White-out, use Match page so the patch blends with a tinted background, then type the correction with Match style so it uses a similar font size and colour.

Reviewing a contract or statement

Use Find with the Amounts or Dates preset to highlight every figure or deadline, then add arrows and notes where something needs attention.

Tips

Limitations

What happens to your files

The PDF is rendered with PDF.js and your edits are written into it with pdf-lib, both running in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, including images you place and text found with the Find presets such as Aadhaar or PAN numbers; that matching is done on your device. The saved copy is stored in your Workspace in this browser's IndexedDB until you remove it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened, edited and saved inside your browser. It never leaves your device.
Can I change the existing text?
You can cover it with white-out and type the correct text on top. Editing the original words in place is not supported, and white-out only hides the old words: they stay in the file and can still be copied or found by search, so use Redact PDF for anything confidential.
Is there a watermark or limit?
No watermark, no account and no daily limit.
Can I fill in a form?
Yes. Click anywhere to type, so any form can be filled in, even ones without fillable fields.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
Is File Studio completely free?
Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
Does it work on mobile and tablet?
Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
