PDF to Word — Editable, Private and Unlimited
Convert PDF to editable Word (DOCX) free: headings, lists, real tables and images rebuilt. Batch convert, no upload, no daily limit, works offline.
About PDF to Word
PDF to Word reads the text, positions and images inside a PDF and rebuilds them as an editable .docx: headings, paragraphs, bullet lists, tables and pictures, with a page break after each PDF page. It is meant for PDFs that were made from a document, not for scans.
How to use PDF to Word
- Drop one or more PDFs on the drop area or tap + Choose PDF files.
- Click Convert. Each file shows what it is doing, then a summary such as the number of pages, headings, tables and images found.
- If a row says the PDF is a scan, the file has no text to rebuild; see the limitations below.
- Download each .docx with its Word button, or use Download all to get every converted file in one ZIP.
- Open the .docx in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and tidy anything the conversion could not infer, such as column layouts or styles.
When it helps
Updating an old document when only the PDF survives
A policy, syllabus or price list that was exported to PDF years ago can be pulled back into Word, edited and exported again, instead of being retyped.
Reusing a table
Tables are rebuilt as real Word tables with rows and cells, so figures from a report can be copied into a new document or pasted into a spreadsheet more cleanly than by copying from a PDF viewer.
Indian-language documents made in Word
PDFs exported from Microsoft Word often store Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam or Bengali letters with wrong character codes, which is why copying from them gives jumbled text. This converter reads the embedded font's own character map to correct that and puts letters back into typed order.
Tips
- PDFs exported from Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice give the best results. PDFs from design software, where every line is placed separately, convert to plainer text that needs more clean-up.
- Expect a reflowed document, not a pixel copy. Text is set in standard fonts (Calibri, Times New Roman or Consolas, plus a font that covers the script for Indian, Arabic and East Asian text), and text colours are not kept.
- Headings are detected from size and boldness. After converting, apply Word's Heading styles where needed if you want a navigation pane or table of contents.
- If a PDF is password-protected, unlock it first with Unlock PDF and then convert the unlocked copy.
- For scanned pages, check the file with PDF DPI first: pages reported as Scanned / image page have no text layer for this tool to read.
Limitations
- Scanned PDFs are not converted. There is no OCR, so a PDF made of page photos is reported as a scan instead of producing an empty document.
- Multi-column layouts, sidebars, text boxes and text placed over images may come out in a different reading order or as ordinary paragraphs.
- Original fonts, text colours, exact spacing, headers and footers, footnote links, form fields and annotations are not recreated as such.
- Text typed in old non-Unicode Indian fonts such as Bamini or Kruti Dev cannot be repaired, because the PDF stores it as Latin letters.
What happens to your files
The PDF is parsed by PDF.js in a background worker inside your browser, and the .docx is assembled on your device with the docx library. For Indian scripts the tool may load small character-map files that ship with the site; your document is never uploaded. Converted .docx files stay in the page's memory until you download them and are not saved to the Workspace.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the Word file editable?
- Yes. Text comes out as real paragraphs, headings and bullet lists, tables as real Word tables, and images as images — ready to edit in Word or Google Docs.
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. The PDF is read and the Word file is built inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
- Does it work on scanned PDFs?
- Not yet. Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages with no text inside, which needs OCR. PDFs exported from Word, Google Docs or other apps convert well.
- Does it work for Tamil, Hindi and other Indian languages?
- Yes, in most cases. PDFs made by Microsoft Word often store Tamil, Hindi, Bengali or Malayalam letters with wrong character codes or in drawing order, so copied text looks broken. File Studio repairs that while converting, so Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Arabic and Urdu usually come out as editable Unicode text in fonts that support the script. Text typed in old non-Unicode fonts such as Bamini or Kruti Dev cannot be repaired.
- Is there a limit?
- No daily limit and no account. Add as many PDFs as you like and convert them together.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
- Is File Studio completely free?
- Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
- Does it work on mobile and tablet?
- Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
