PDF to 200 DPI Converter & DPI Checker

Check the DPI of every page in your PDF, then convert it to exactly 200 or 300 DPI in colour, grayscale or black & white. Same page size, optional KB limit. Free, no upload.

What DPI Means for a PDF

DPI (dots per inch) is the number of image pixels that fit in one inch of the printed page. A scanned A4 page that is 1654 pixels wide is 200 DPI, because A4 is 8.27 inches wide. Text and vector drawings typed in Word or exported from software have no DPI at all: they are drawn sharply at any zoom. That is why a portal that checks for 200 DPI can reject a perfectly readable PDF. The checker on this page reads every image on every page, compares its pixel size with the size it is printed at, and tells you the real DPI, or that the page is text/vector with no fixed DPI.

Convert a PDF to Exactly 200 or 300 DPI

The converter renders each page at the DPI you choose (150, 200, 300 or any value from 50 to 600) and builds a new PDF with the same page sizes as the original, so every page is one image at exactly that DPI. Colour and grayscale pages are saved as JPEG with a quality you can set; black & white pages are saved as true 1-bit images, which are sharp and very small. Converting a low-resolution scan to 200 DPI makes it pass a DPI check, but it cannot add detail that the scan never had, so rescan at 200 DPI or more when the original is blurry.

PAN, TAN and Other Portals That Ask for 200 DPI

Protean (formerly NSDL) online PAN and TAN applications ask for scanned supporting documents at 200 DPI in black and white, and customs (eSANCHIT) and several recruitment portals ask for at least 200 DPI too. The PAN / TAN preset sets 200 DPI black & white in one tap. Each portal also sets a maximum file size, and limits change, so enter the limit from your own form in the Keep under KB box: the tool lowers JPEG quality until the file fits, without changing the DPI, and tells you if it still can't.

Your Documents Stay on Your Phone

PAN, Aadhaar, address proofs and certificates are exactly the files you shouldn't upload to an unknown converter. File Studio checks and converts the PDF inside your browser, so the file never leaves your phone or computer. It works on Android phones and iPhones without installing an app.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check the DPI of a PDF?
Open the PDF here. For every page the checker shows the page size and the DPI of its images: image pixels divided by the printed size in inches. Pages made of typed text or vector drawings have no fixed DPI, and the checker says so instead of guessing.
How do I convert a PDF to 200 DPI?
Upload the PDF, pick 200 DPI and a colour mode, and tap Convert. Every page is rendered at 200 DPI and placed on a page of the original size, so the new PDF is exactly 200 DPI. The DPI of the new file is measured and shown before you download.
My PAN or TAN application says the PDF DPI should be 200. What do I do?
Tap the PAN / TAN (Protean) preset, which sets 200 DPI black & white, and convert. If your form also gives a maximum file size, type it in the Keep under KB box. Black & white is stored as 1-bit images, which keeps scanned documents small.
Can I convert a PDF to 300 DPI?
Yes. Choose 300, or Custom for any value from 50 to 600 DPI. Higher DPI means a larger file, so use the KB box if the portal has a size limit.
Will converting a blurry 100 DPI scan to 200 DPI make it sharper?
No. It will pass a 200 DPI check, but upscaling cannot add detail the scan never captured. For a clearer file, scan the paper again at 200 DPI or higher.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
Is File Studio completely free?
Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
Does it work on mobile and tablet?
Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
