Clipboard Sync — Copy on One Device, Paste on the Other
Send copied text between your Android phone and Windows laptop over your own Wi-Fi. Pair once with a QR code, no account, no cloud: text goes directly device to device and is signed and encrypted in transit.
Copy on Your Phone, Paste on Your Laptop
Clipboard Sync moves copied text between two devices on the same Wi-Fi. Open it on both, show the pairing QR code on one and scan it with the other (or type the six-character code and check that both screens show the same number). From then on the devices reconnect by themselves whenever the app is open on both. Copy a link, an address or a message on one device and it appears on the other, ready to paste. A history of the last ten items is kept in memory with copy buttons, and a toggle pauses syncing at any time.
What Works Where
Browsers only let a web page read the clipboard while its window is in front, so this is not silent background sync. On Windows in Chrome or Edge, copy anything and switch to the Clipboard Sync window and it sends; while the window stays focused it checks every 1.5 seconds. On Android in Chrome it sends when you open or return to the app. Received text is copied automatically when the app is in front; otherwise it waits with a tap-to-copy button and copies once you come back, unless you have copied something newer. Firefox and Safari don't let websites read the clipboard, so you paste into the box and press Send. Watching the clipboard in the background would need a native helper app.
Private by Design
There is no account. A public signalling server only introduces the two devices by connection ID and never sees your text or your pairing secret. Text travels directly between the devices over your local network on an encrypted WebRTC connection with no relay, and every message is signed with a key only the paired devices hold, so tampered or replayed messages are dropped. Nothing you copy is logged or stored on a server. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi, and guest, hotel and many office networks block device-to-device connections.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it sync automatically in the background?
- Not fully. Browsers only let a page read the clipboard while its window is in front. On Windows, copy something and switch to the Clipboard Sync window and it sends; while the window stays focused it checks every 1.5 seconds. On Android it sends when you open the app. Incoming text is copied straight away if the app is in front, otherwise it waits with a tap-to-copy button and copies when you return. True background sync needs a native app, which this is not.
- Does my clipboard text go through a server?
- No. A public signalling server only introduces the two devices by connection ID; it never sees your text or the pairing secret. The text then travels directly between the devices over your local Wi-Fi on an encrypted WebRTC connection, and every message is signed with your pairing key. There is no relay fallback.
- Why won't my devices connect?
- Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network, and the network must let devices see each other. Guest, hotel, college and many office networks block this (client isolation), and the app tells you when that happens. A phone hotspot shared to the laptop works well.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No app store install is needed. Open the page on both devices; installing it as an app from the browser menu makes it quicker to reach. Allow clipboard access when the browser asks.
- What if clipboard access is blocked?
- Paste into the box and press Send, and use the Copy button on the other device. To allow automatic reading again, open the site settings for filestudio.in and set Clipboard to Allow. Firefox and Safari don't let websites read the clipboard, so they always use the paste box.
- Is it safe for passwords and OTPs?
- Text only goes to the device you paired, it isn't logged or stored on any server, and recent history is kept in memory only. Still, anything you copy is sent while sync is on, so switch the toggle off before copying something you don't want on the other device.
