Glass Start Page — Your Browser Homepage, with Widgets
A beautiful glassmorphism start page for your browser: clock, search, quick links, notes, to-dos, Pomodoro timer, battery, CPU benchmark, GPU and display info, internet speed test, click speed (CPS), reaction and typing tests. Free, private, no account.
About Glass Start Page
A glassmorphism dashboard to use as your browser's homepage or startup page: clock, search, quick links, notes, to-dos, a focus timer, device information, an internet speed test and click, reaction and typing tests, all as cards you can rearrange. Everything is saved in your browser.
How to use Glass Start Page
- Open the page; the default cards appear over the Aurora wallpaper.
- Press Customize to choose a wallpaper, accent colour, glass blur and tint, light or dark glass, density, clock format, your name and search engine.
- Press Edit layout, drag cards by their grip (or anywhere with a mouse) into the order you like, pick S, M or L for each card, remove cards with × and add others from Add a widget.
- Press Set as homepage, copy the address and follow the steps for your browser.
- Press Start page mode to hide the File Studio menus, and the full-screen button to hide the browser bar as well. Esc leaves either.
When it helps
A calm homepage for work
Clock, to-dos, notes and a 25/5 Pomodoro timer on one screen. The tab title shows the countdown, so you can see it from other tabs.
Checking a new or second-hand laptop
The CPU, memory, GPU & display and battery cards show what the browser can see: thread count, a quick benchmark, GPU model, screen resolution, refresh rate and battery health in charge time.
Testing your internet and reflexes
Run the speed test for download, upload, latency and jitter, or challenge friends on clicks per second, reaction time and typing speed. Best scores are kept.
Tips
- Type a web address such as github.com into the search box to open it directly instead of searching.
- Use Export layout to copy your start page to another browser or computer, then Import layout there.
- Lower the blur on older laptops if scrolling feels slow; turning off the moving wallpaper also saves battery.
- Close other heavy tabs before the CPU benchmark or speed test for steadier numbers.
Limitations
- Chrome, Edge and Firefox only let extensions replace the new-tab page; this page works as a homepage or startup page.
- Firefox and Safari don't share battery or device memory, and Chrome rounds device memory and caps it at 8 GB.
- The CPU score compares runs in the same browser; different browsers run JavaScript at different speeds.
- Speed-test results depend on the route to Cloudflare's nearest server and can differ from your provider's own test.
What happens to your files
Layout, settings, notes, to-dos, links and scores stay in this browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded. The speed test, only when you start it, downloads and uploads test data to Cloudflare's public speed-test servers; no other part of the page uses the internet.
A Start Page Made of Glass Cards
The page is a set of frosted-glass cards over a slowly moving gradient wallpaper. Pick one of eight colour wallpapers (Aurora, Sunset, Ocean, Midnight, Forest, Blossom, Mono light, Pastel) or a blurred photo, an accent colour, how strong the blur and tint are, light or dark glass, and compact, cozy or roomy spacing. Press Edit layout to drag cards into any order, set each to small, medium or large, remove the ones you don't need and add others. Start page mode hides the File Studio menus so the dashboard fills the window, and full screen hides the browser bar too. The wallpaper stays still if your device asks for reduced motion.
The Widgets
Clock with date and a greeting (12 or 24 hour), a search box for Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo or Brave that also opens typed web addresses, quick-link tiles with letter icons, notes that save as you type, a to-do list you can reorder, and a Pomodoro focus timer with a chime and the countdown in the tab title. Device cards show battery level and time left, logical CPU cores with a three-second benchmark, device memory and the page's JavaScript heap, the GPU name, screen resolution, scale, measured refresh rate and colour gamut, connection details, and how much storage the site may use. A speed-test card measures download, upload, latency and jitter, and a reflex card has click speed (1, 5 or 10 seconds), reaction time and typing speed tests with your best scores kept.
Private by Design
Your layout, settings, notes, to-dos, links and scores are stored only in this browser's local storage; there is no account and nothing is uploaded. The page works offline once loaded. The only network use is the speed test, which you start yourself and which talks to Cloudflare's public speed-test servers. Device details come from the browser's own APIs; where a browser keeps something private (Firefox and Safari don't share battery or memory), the card says so. Export layout saves everything as a JSON file you can import in another browser.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I make this my browser's homepage?
- Open the page, press Set as homepage, and copy the address shown (it ends in ?start so it opens without the File Studio menus). In Chrome go to Settings → On startup → Open a specific page and paste it; in Edge, Settings → Start, home, and new tabs; in Firefox, Settings → Home → Custom URLs; in Safari, Settings → General → Homepage. The panel on the page has the exact steps for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave and Chrome on Android.
- Can it replace the new-tab page?
- Chrome, Edge and Firefox only let an extension replace the new-tab page. A homepage and startup page work without one, and Safari and Brave can open the homepage in every new tab.
- Where are my notes, to-dos and layout saved?
- Only in this browser's local storage on your device. There is no account and nothing is sent to File Studio. Use Customize → Export layout to save a file you can import in another browser.
- Does the page use the internet?
- Only the speed test, and only when you press Run speed test: it downloads and uploads test data to Cloudflare's public speed-test servers to measure your connection. Everything else, including the CPU benchmark, runs on your device, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
- Why does the battery or memory widget say it's not available?
- Firefox and Safari don't share battery level or device memory with websites, for privacy. Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers do, and the numbers are the browser's own approximations (device memory is rounded and capped at 8 GB).
- How is the CPU score worked out?
- A small fixed workload of integer, floating-point and memory operations runs in a background worker for about a second on one thread, then on every logical core at once. The score is how many rounds of work finished per second, so it is useful for comparing devices or runs in the same browser.
