FileStudio Notes — Your Notes, Your Device, No Account

A private notebook in your browser: rich text, checklists, tables, symbols, drawings, diagrams and mind maps, voice, photo and video notes, text from photos, PDF export and full backup. No account, works offline, nothing uploaded.

Beta: this tool works for common files but is still being improved; see Limitations below.

One Notebook for Text, Drawings, Voice, Photos and Video

FileStudio Notes is a full notebook that runs in your browser. Write with headings, bold and italic, bullet and numbered lists, interactive checklists, quotes, code and links, insert tables you can grow and shrink, and add maths, arrow, Greek, currency and other symbols from a searchable picker. Draw by hand with pen, pencil and highlighter (stylus pressure works where your device supports it), build flowcharts and mind maps with shapes and connectors, record voice notes with pause, bookmarks and notes beside the recording, take photos and record video from the camera, or attach files you already have. Every drawing and diagram stays editable.

Edit Attachments with FileStudio's Own Tools

A voice note can be trimmed in the audio editor or cleaned up with the silence remover, a video can be cut in the video editor, and a photo can be cropped, rotated, adjusted and marked up in the built-in photo editor. When you're done you choose Save as new attachment or Replace original, so nothing is overwritten by accident. Text in photos can be read on your device and inserted into the note, and that text then shows up in search.

Private, Offline and Portable

There is no account and nothing is uploaded: notes and media are stored in your browser on this device, and the notebook keeps working offline once it has loaded. Search covers titles, text, tags, folders, attachment names and text read from photos. Export a note to PDF (through your browser's Save as PDF), Markdown or JSON, or export everything as a ZIP backup and import it on another phone or laptop with Merge or Replace. On Chrome and Edge on a computer, Laptop Folder Mode can also keep a readable copy in a folder you choose. Notes are not encrypted, and clearing site data deletes them, so keep a backup.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Notes, photos and recordings are saved only in this browser on this device.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, writing, drawing, recording and exporting all work without internet. Reading text from photos downloads its engine and language data the first time you use it (about 4 MB for English) and then keeps working offline.
How do I move my notes to another phone or laptop?
Open Settings and export a full backup. It is a ZIP file with every note, photo, recording, drawing and diagram. On the other device, import it and choose Merge or Replace. Nothing passes through a server.
Can I lose my notes?
Notes live in your browser's storage, so clearing site data or uninstalling the browser deletes them. Export a backup now and then. On Chrome and Edge on a computer you can also turn on Laptop Folder Mode to keep a copy in a folder you choose.
Can I edit a voice recording, photo or video inside a note?
Yes. Recordings open in FileStudio's audio editor and silence remover, videos in the video editor, and photos in the built-in photo editor. You choose whether to save the result as a new attachment or replace the original.
How does PDF export work?
Pick A4 or Letter, margins, page numbers and what to include, then save from your browser's print dialog as PDF. Text, tables, checklists, photos, drawings and diagrams are included; audio and video are listed by name because a PDF can't play them.
Are my notes encrypted?
No. They are stored unencrypted in your browser, the same as other site data. Anyone with access to this browser profile can open them.
