Tab Picture-in-Picture

Float any browser tab, window or screen in an always-on-top Picture-in-Picture window. Tile several tabs, no extension, nothing recorded or uploaded.

Beta: this tool works for common files but is still being improved; see Limitations below.

Float Any Tab Above Your Other Apps

Press Pick a tab to float and choose a tab, an app window or a whole screen in your browser's share picker. It opens in a small Picture-in-Picture window that stays on top of every app, so you can watch a live stream, a dashboard, a build log or a meeting while you work in something else. Hover the floating window to switch between fitting the whole tab and filling the window, to play the tab's sound if you shared it, or to close it.

Several Tabs in One Window

In desktop Chrome and Edge you can add up to six tabs; they tile side by side, two by two or in a grid inside one floating window, each with its own name and close button. Other browsers that support Picture-in-Picture for live video float one tab at a time. Firefox can share a tab but doesn't let a web page open its floating window, so it shows a live preview on the page. Phones and tablets can't share tabs.

View-Only, Private and Local

The floating window is a live picture, not the page itself: to click or type, switch to the original tab. Nothing is recorded, saved or uploaded; the picture goes straight from your browser to the floating window. Closing the floating window, pressing Stop all or using the browser's Stop sharing button ends sharing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I click inside the floating window?
No. It is a live, view-only picture of the tab. To scroll, type or click, switch to the original tab; the floating view updates straight away.
Which browsers does it work in?
Desktop Chrome and Edge (version 116 or newer) can float several tabs tiled in one window. Other desktop browsers that support Picture-in-Picture for live video, such as Safari, float one tab at a time. Firefox can share a tab, but a web page can't open its Picture-in-Picture window, so you get a live preview on the page instead. Phones and tablets can't share tabs.
Is anything recorded or uploaded?
No. The picture goes from your browser straight to the floating window on your computer. Nothing is saved, recorded or sent to a server.
How do I stop it?
Close the floating window, press Stop all, or use your browser's Stop sharing button. Closing the floating window also stops sharing.
