About FileStudio TV Remote

Free browser-based Smart TV companion with direct D-pad remote buttons, universal keyboard text entry, gesture touchpad, push-to-talk voice commands, Google Cast media streaming, and an interactive TV simulator. Designed with zero telemetry, no account requirements, and honest protocol capability reporting.

How to use FileStudio TV Remote

  1. Click 'Connect TV' in the top bar to select your device: choose Roku TV (ECP LAN), Google Cast Receiver, or the built-in Virtual Smart TV Simulator.
  2. For Roku: Enter your TV's local private IP address (found under Roku Settings → Network → About). If prompted by your browser, permit insecure local network content.
  3. For Google Cast / Chromecast: Tap Connect Cast to launch the native browser Cast sender picker and select your Chromecast or Google TV.
  4. Use the D-Pad Remote tab for directional arrows, OK/Select, Back, Home, Volume, Mute, Channel, and Play/Pause controls.
  5. Switch to the Keyboard tab to type text, passwords, or search queries directly into on-screen TV search inputs without tediously arrowing across an on-screen alphabet.
  6. Switch to the Touchpad tab to navigate with natural finger swipes, tap to select, double tap, and adjustable sensitivity.
  7. Switch to Voice tab to hold push-to-talk: speak commands like 'mute', 'volume up 5', 'play', or 'open Netflix' with instant deterministic execution.
  8. Switch to Media Cast tab to stream direct MP4, HLS, or audio stream URLs to your Cast receiver, or inspect the Brands and IR Hub guides to learn how other TV platforms operate.

When it helps

Lost or broken physical remote control

Instantly control your Roku or Chromecast from your smartphone or laptop browser without searching for lost AA batteries or buying an overpriced replacement remote.

Typing passwords and long search queries

Entering complex Wi-Fi passwords, YouTube search queries, or login emails with a traditional remote takes minutes. FileStudio's Keyboard tab lets you type or paste text instantly.

Hands-free push-to-talk voice commands

Mute ads quickly, pause video, or adjust volume from across the room using fast, on-device push-to-talk speech recognition without continuous background listening.

Classroom and conference room presentations

Presenters and teachers can control playback, navigate slides or media, and cast web video directly to display TVs from any laptop browser.

Tips

Limitations

What happens to your files

100% private and client-side. No accounts, logins, telemetry, or server proxies are used. Your TV IP address, saved text snippets, and preferences are stored strictly in your browser's localStorage only with your consent and never leave your device.

Zero-Install Smart TV Controller for Phones and Laptops

FileStudio TV Remote transforms any smartphone, tablet, or laptop browser into an intuitive, honest Smart TV companion. By tapping into official browser-supported smart television standards like the Roku External Control Protocol (ECP) and the Google Cast Web Sender SDK, users can navigate menus, control volume, type text, and cast video streams across their local Wi-Fi network without creating an account, installing third-party apps, or sacrificing their privacy.

Universal Keyboard Input & Touchpad Swipe Gestures

Typing movie titles, actor names, and Wi-Fi passwords with an on-screen TV remote keyboard is notoriously frustrating. The universal keyboard panel allows you to type effortlessly on your physical or mobile keyboard and transmit characters sequentially to your television's active input box. Meanwhile, the touchpad surface translates natural finger swipes into responsive navigation steps, giving you smooth tactile feedback without false claims of unsupported mouse pointers.

Push-to-Talk Voice Commands with Privacy Safeguards

Voice navigation should respect your home privacy. Using the browser's built-in Web Speech API, FileStudio provides dedicated push-to-talk voice commands that activate only while you press the microphone button. Spoken phrases are parsed through a deterministic local command engine into volume adjustments, menu steps, and search queries. Consequential actions—like powering off the display or launching streaming apps—require explicit visual confirmation to prevent accidental interruptions.

Honest Brand Compatibility & Network Reality Diagnostics

Unlike misleading utility apps that claim universal compatibility with every television, FileStudio provides an honest, evidence-based compatibility explorer. We explain the exact networking realities of modern web browsers: how HTTPS mixed-content rules interact with local HTTP endpoints, why platforms like Samsung Tizen and LG webOS require local bridge pairing for secure WebSockets, and how Wi-Fi-to-IR hub blasters enable control of legacy non-smart displays.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install an app or create an account to use this remote?
No. FileStudio TV Remote runs 100% locally in your browser. There is no account, login, or tracking. Controls communicate directly with supported devices on your local Wi-Fi network.
Which Smart TVs are supported directly from the browser?
Roku TVs and streaming players support direct navigation, text typing, volume, and app launching via the official HTTP External Control Protocol (ECP). Chromecast and Google Cast-enabled receivers support wireless media casting and volume control via the Google Cast SDK. Other platforms (Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Fire TV) use encrypted local protocols that require a local bridge or companion setup.
Why does my browser warn about Mixed Content or private network access?
FileStudio runs securely over HTTPS. Modern browsers enforce security policies that prevent HTTPS pages from silently contacting unencrypted HTTP devices on your private local network (such as Roku port 8060). In Chrome and Edge, you can allow 'Insecure content' for this site in site settings, or use Google Cast which communicates over secure browser channels.
Can this web tool control my legacy TV using an infrared (IR) blaster?
No. Standard web browsers cannot access or pulse physical infrared LEDs on phones. For non-smart TVs, you can either plug in a supported HDMI streaming stick (like Roku or Chromecast) or use an external Wi-Fi-to-IR hub (like BroadLink or SwitchBot).
Does the voice remote listen in the background?
No. The voice feature uses strict push-to-talk. Speech recognition is active only while you tap the microphone button. Audio is transcribed client-side using the browser Web Speech API and is never recorded or sent to FileStudio servers.
