Personalized Password Generator

Generate memorable or fully random passwords in your browser with secure randomness. Optional hints shape the words; nothing you type is stored or uploaded.

Beta: this tool works for common files but is still being improved; see Limitations below.

Memorable or Fully Random

Memorable mode builds a password from random words joined with separators, numbers and symbols, so you can actually remember it. Optional hints such as a favourite hobby only steer which themed words are picked; your exact words and numbers are not copied into the password. Maximum Randomness mode ignores hints and picks every character at random from the character types you choose, which is the stronger option at any length.

Honest Strength, Real Randomness

Every random choice comes from your browser's cryptographic random generator, with unbiased selection; there is no fallback to weaker randomness. Strength is shown as an estimate of bits of randomness based on how the password was built, counting only the random choices, so a word-based password is honestly shown as weaker than random characters of the same length.

Private by Design

Your hints and passwords stay in this browser tab. They are not uploaded, saved, logged or put in the page address, and Clear all wipes them. Passwords are hidden until you reveal them. For most accounts, a password manager that creates and stores a unique password for each site is the safest choice.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to type hints here?
Hints are used only to pick related words from a built-in word list, in your browser. They are not stored, logged or uploaded, and your exact words and numbers are not copied into the password. Still, avoid hints like your name, birthday or phone number.
What's the difference between the two modes?
Memorable mode joins random words with separators, numbers and symbols, so it's easier to remember. Maximum Randomness picks every character at random from the sets you choose; at the same length it is much stronger. Use it when a password manager will remember it for you.
How is strength measured?
By counting the randomness in how the password was made, shown as bits. Only the random choices count, not your hints. It's an estimate based on the method, not a guarantee.
Should I use a password manager?
Yes. A password manager lets you use a different strong password for every account without remembering them. Use this tool for the few passwords you must type from memory.
