HEIC to JPG — Convert iPhone Photos Free
Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG or PNG free, many at once. Works for exam, bank and government form uploads. No upload, no limit.
About HEIC to JPG
Converts iPhone HEIC and HEIF photos into JPG or PNG, many at once, in any modern browser. You can set JPG quality and shrink the longest side to 2048, 1600 or 1080 px for upload forms or messaging.
How to use HEIC to JPG
- Drop photos on the page or use + Add photos. Conversion starts immediately with the current settings.
- Choose the Format (JPG or PNG) and, for JPG, the Quality (92% by default).
- Under Resize longest side, keep Original or pick 2048, 1600 or 1080 px.
- If you change settings after converting, press Apply new settings to re-run every photo.
- Download each file from its row, or Download all as ZIP.
When it helps
Government and exam portals that refuse HEIC
Most upload forms accept only JPG or PNG. Converting with the 1600 or 1080 px resize gives a manageable file that a portal-specific tool can then fit to its exact KB range.
Opening iPhone photos on Windows
Windows may need an extra codec to show HEIC. Converting a whole AirDrop or cable dump to JPG at once avoids that.
Screenshots and graphics that need sharp edges
Choose PNG for screenshots or anything with text, where JPG compression would blur edges. Expect PNG files to be several times larger than JPG for ordinary photos.
Tips
- The tool recognises HEIC by reading the file header, so a photo whose name was changed to .jpg by a messaging app is still detected and decoded properly.
- When you resize, the photo is first decoded losslessly and compressed only once at the end, so a smaller size does not mean double JPG compression.
- JPG output has no transparency; any transparent area is filled with white.
- To stop the problem at the source, set iPhone Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, and the camera saves JPG directly.
- Regular JPG and PNG files are also accepted, which is handy for resizing a mixed batch in one pass.
Limitations
- Only the still image is converted. A Live Photo's video part, burst sequences and depth or portrait-mode data are not carried over, and a multi-image HEIF yields only its main picture.
- The output is a fresh image without the original's EXIF metadata, so date taken, camera details and GPS location are not kept. That is good for privacy but means photo apps may sort the converted files by conversion date.
- HDR and wide-colour (Display P3) photos are converted to a standard image and can look slightly flatter than on the iPhone.
- Decoding is done in WebAssembly and uses a lot of memory for large photos. On older phones, convert in smaller batches.
What happens to your files
Photos are decoded on your device by the open-source heic-to library (libheif compiled to WebAssembly), which this site downloads to your browser the first time a HEIC file is converted and which runs in its own Web Worker. The photos themselves are never uploaded. The ZIP is assembled locally, and converted files are added to the in-browser Workspace (IndexedDB, kept for seven days).

Frequently asked questions
- Why can't I upload my iPhone photo?
- iPhones save photos as HEIC. Many websites, exam portals and Windows apps only accept JPG or PNG, so the photo is rejected until it is converted.
- Are my photos uploaded?
- No. They are converted inside your browser and never leave your device.
- Can I convert many photos?
- Yes. Add as many HEIC photos as you like and download them all as a ZIP.
- Will quality drop?
- JPG is saved at 92% quality by default, where differences are hard to see in normal viewing. You can raise the quality or choose lossless PNG if you need it.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
- Is File Studio completely free?
- Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
- Does it work on mobile and tablet?
- Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
