About WhatsApp Status Cutter

Cuts one longer video into a numbered series of short clips sized for WhatsApp Status, so they play in order when posted one after another. It can copy the original video data without re-encoding, which is quick and keeps the exact quality, or re-encode to change the shape, resolution or size.

How to use WhatsApp Status Cutter

  1. Pick a video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV). Its duration, size and resolution show straight away.
  2. Trim the part you want with the two green handles on the film strip, or type start and end times, and press Preview to check it.
  3. Choose the clip length: 15, 30, 60 or 90 seconds, or a custom value between 5 and 300 seconds. White marks on the strip show every cut before anything is processed.
  4. Leave Trim only selected for a lossless copy, or switch to Trim & resize to choose 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9, a resolution (Original, 1080p, 720p, 480p), Smaller, Balanced or Higher quality, and whether to keep the sound.
  5. Tap Create clips, preview each clip, then download them one by one, as a ZIP, or with Share to WhatsApp on a phone.

When it helps

A full song or speech as a Status series

A four-minute clip at 30 seconds per part becomes eight files named whatsapp_status_01.mp4 onwards. Posting them in that order lets viewers tap through without a gap in the story.

Landscape footage for a vertical Status

Trim & resize with 9:16 puts the wide picture on a full-screen canvas with a blurred background, so the Status isn't a thin strip in the middle of a black screen.

Keeping a family video under control on mobile data

Trim & resize at 720p with Smaller quality produces noticeably lighter clips, which helps when you or your contacts are on a limited data plan.

What happens to your files

The video is read from your device and split in your browser: key frames are listed from the file's index, clips are written by copying packets or by the browser's own video encoder, and nothing is uploaded. Your original file is not modified. The only thing stored is your preferred clip length and resize settings, in this browser's local storage. When you use Share to WhatsApp, the finished clip is handed to your phone's share sheet, and from there WhatsApp handles it under its own terms.

How to Use the WhatsApp Status Cutter

1. Choose a video from your phone or computer; its length, size and resolution appear straight away. 2. Trim it: drag the green start and end handles on the film strip, or type times such as 0:05 and 1:10, and press Preview to watch just that part. 3. Pick a clip length of 15, 30, 60 or 90 seconds, or type your own; white marks on the timeline show where each clip will be cut, and the last clip simply holds whatever is left. 4. Keep Trim only for the fastest result, or choose Trim & resize to change the shape, resolution, compression or sound. 5. Tap Create clips, preview each one, then download it, download them all as a ZIP, or tap Share to WhatsApp. The files are named whatsapp_status_01.mp4, 02, 03 and so on, so they stay in order.

Trim Only or Trim & Resize?

Trim only copies the video into the clips without re-encoding it, so it finishes in seconds even for long videos and the picture and sound are exactly the original. Because a copy can only start on a key frame, the first clip may start a moment before your selection and cuts can move back slightly, so a clip may be a little shorter than the length you picked but never longer; the page says when this happens. Trim & resize re-encodes the clips with your device's video encoder: make them 9:16 for full-screen Status with a blurred background, a fit with bars or a fill that crops, square 1:1 or 16:9; pick Original, 1080p, 720p or 480p; choose Smaller, Balanced or Higher quality; and keep or mute the sound. Cuts are then on the exact frame.

Sharing Clips to Your Status on Android, iPhone and Computers

On Android phones and on iPhones, Share to WhatsApp opens the phone's own share sheet with the clip attached: pick WhatsApp, choose My status and send. WhatsApp only posts when you confirm, and nothing is posted automatically. Most computer browsers can't pass a video to WhatsApp, so there the page offers the download and simple steps instead: post from WhatsApp Desktop or Web if it shows Status, or move the clip to your phone and post it from Updates → My status. WhatsApp decides how long a Status video can be and that limit has changed over time, so the clip length here is always yours to choose.

Private, Free and Done on Your Device

The whole job runs in your browser: your video is never uploaded, there is no account, no payment and no watermark, and your original file is not changed. How fast it is depends on your device and on the video's length and size; Trim only is quick everywhere, while re-encoding a long 1080p video takes longer on an older phone. Need more than cutting? The Video Editor adds music, text and transitions, Compress Video shrinks a video to an exact size, and the Video Player plays your clips with speed control.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a WhatsApp Status video be?
WhatsApp sets the limit and has changed it over time (it was 30 seconds for years, and newer app versions allow longer videos), so it can differ between app versions and may change again. That's why the clip length here is your choice: 15, 30, 60 or 90 seconds, or a custom length. If WhatsApp asks you to trim a clip, cut the video again with a shorter length.
How does Share to WhatsApp work on Android?
Tap Share to WhatsApp under a clip and Android's share sheet opens with the video attached. Pick WhatsApp, choose My status and tap Send. WhatsApp only posts after you confirm; this page can't post anything by itself. Share the clips in order (01, 02, 03…) so they play back to back.
Does sharing work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari (and other browsers) on iOS 15 or newer: Share to WhatsApp opens the iPhone share sheet with the clip attached. Pick WhatsApp, then My status, and send. If WhatsApp isn't in the list, choose Save Video, then post it from WhatsApp → Updates → My status.
Can I use it on a computer?
Yes. Cutting works the same on Windows, Mac and Linux. Most desktop browsers can't hand a video straight to WhatsApp, so download the clips (one by one or all as a ZIP) and post them from WhatsApp Desktop or Web if it offers Status there, or move them to your phone and post them from WhatsApp → Updates → My status.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. The video is read from your device and cut inside your browser; nothing is sent to a server, and there's no sign-up. Your original file isn't changed. Speed depends on your device and on the video's length and size.
Which video formats work?
MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV, including phone videos in H.264 or H.265 (HEVC). The clips are saved as MP4. H.264 and H.265 videos can be cut without re-encoding; other codecs, such as VP9 in WebM, are converted to H.264 so WhatsApp accepts them.
Will the clips lose quality?
With Trim only, the video is copied as it is, so the clips have exactly the original quality. Trim & resize re-encodes the picture to change its shape, resolution or file size; Balanced looks close to the original. Note that WhatsApp compresses every Status video again when you post it, whatever you upload.
Why is the first clip a little earlier, or some clips slightly shorter?
Trim only copies the video without re-encoding, and a copy can only start on a key frame (a full picture the video stores every second or few). So the first clip may start a moment before your selection, and each cut moves back to the nearest key frame so no clip is longer than the length you chose. The page tells you when this happens. For cuts on the exact second, choose Trim & resize.
Is it free?
Yes. There's no payment, no account, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you cut.
