Free Video Editor — No Watermark, No Upload, No Login

Edit videos in your browser: trim, split, add music and text, filters, transitions, 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and WhatsApp Status. Export 1080p MP4 free with no watermark. Files never leave your device.

Beta: this tool works for common files but is still being improved; see Limitations below.

About Video Editor

A timeline video editor that runs in a browser tab: trim and split clips, add photos, music, a recorded voice-over, text and transitions, then export an MP4 (H.264 + AAC), a WebM (VP9 + Opus) or just the mixed sound as M4A. Decoding and encoding go through the browser's WebCodecs encoder and the picture is composed on the graphics chip, so the export happens on your own machine at up to 1080p.

How to use Video Editor

  1. Add media from the Media panel or drop files on the page: MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video, JPG, PNG or WebP photos, and MP3, M4A or WAV audio. A built-in sample is there if you just want to try the controls.
  2. Choose the canvas format at the top: 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and Status, 16:9 for YouTube, 1:1, 4:5, or Original to match your first clip. You can change it later without losing positions, because everything is stored relative to the frame.
  3. Cut on the timeline: drag clip edges to trim, place the playhead and split, drag clips to reorder, and use Shift+Delete for a ripple delete that closes the gap. Space plays, the arrow keys step one frame, and ? lists every shortcut.
  4. Select a clip to open the Inspector: speed, volume up to 200 %, fades, Fit or Fill, one of twelve filters with an intensity slider, and manual colour (exposure, contrast, temperature, tint, vignette and more).
  5. Press T to add text at the playhead and pick a style (Title, Bold caption, Lower third, Neon, Indic and others) with a fade, pop or slide-up animation. Press V to record a voice-over from the playhead.
  6. Open Export, pick MP4, WebM or Audio, a resolution of 1080p, 720p or 480p, a frame rate, and either a quality level or a target size in MB. Switch on WhatsApp Status parts if you want the result cut into 30, 60 or 90 second pieces.

When it helps

Turning a landscape clip into a vertical Reel

Set the canvas to 9:16 and a 16:9 clip sits in the middle with a blurred copy of itself filling the top and bottom. If the subject is centred, switch that clip to Fill and drag it to frame the action instead. Export at 1080p gives 1080×1920.

Product or app demo inside a device frame

The Frames panel has layouts such as Phone promo, App demo, Browser walkthrough and Two phones that put your screen recording inside a device mock-up on a backdrop with placeholder titles. Applying a layout is one undo step and never removes your own clips.

Captions in Tamil, Hindi or Telugu

Text is shaped by the browser's own text engine, so conjuncts and vowel signs join correctly. Use the Indic style, or add a Google Fonts family or your own font file from the font picker if the system font doesn't suit the look.

Tips

Limitations

What happens to your files

Your videos, photos and music are read from your device by the browser and decoded, composed and encoded locally; nothing is uploaded to File Studio or anyone else. The project autosaves to IndexedDB in this browser, together with media files when the browser reports enough free space (small files are always kept, large ones only up to a share of the free quota), plus thumbnail and waveform caches. Voice-overs are recorded with your microphone and stored the same way. The only network requests the editor makes on your behalf are optional: if you add a Google Fonts family, the font files are downloaded from Google's font servers. Clearing this site's data in the browser removes everything it stored.

Edit Reels, Shorts and WhatsApp Status in 9:16

Reels, YouTube Shorts and WhatsApp Status are all vertical 9:16 video, 1080×1920 at full quality. Pick the 9:16 format and every clip is placed on that canvas: a landscape clip gets a softly blurred copy of itself behind it instead of black bars, or you can switch a clip to Fill to crop it to the frame, or Fit to show all of it on a colour. Switching to 16:9 for YouTube, 1:1 or 4:5 for an Instagram post never undoes your edits, because positions and sizes are stored relative to the frame. Phone videos recorded upright are turned the right way automatically.

Add Music, Text and Filters — Free, No Watermark

Drop in a song or voiceover, trim it, loop it to fill the video and fade it in and out; 'Lower music under original sound' keeps speech audible by dipping the music to 30 % wherever a clip has its own sound. Text comes in eight styles, from bold captions with an outline to a lower third and a neon look, with fade, pop and slide-up animations, and it shapes Tamil, Hindi and Telugu correctly with your device's fonts. Twelve filters such as Vivid, Warm, Cinematic and Noir each have an intensity slider, and brightness, contrast, saturation, exposure, temperature, tint and vignette fine-tune any clip. Crossfades, fades to black or white, slides, zoom and wipe join the clips. The export has no watermark, at any resolution up to 1080p.

Why Nothing Is Uploaded (and Why It's Fast)

Rendering on a server means uploading your footage first, which costs time on a slow connection and puts your videos on someone else's computer. This editor uses WebCodecs, the video decoder and encoder built into your browser, which use the dedicated video hardware in your phone or laptop where it is available, and draws every frame on the graphics chip with WebGL2. The preview you see is drawn by the same code that renders the export, so what you see is what you get. A single clip that you have only trimmed is exported without re-encoding at all, so it saves in seconds with no quality loss. The file keeps the original key frames and marks the exact start, which phones and browsers honour; a few older players show up to a second before your cut, and ticking Exact frames in Export re-encodes for a cut that is exact everywhere. Your project is saved in this browser as you work.

Split Long Videos for WhatsApp Status

WhatsApp Status accepts short clips, so a longer video has to be posted in parts. Switch on WhatsApp Status parts in Export and choose 30, 60 or 90 seconds per part. The video is rendered once with a key frame exactly at every cut, then divided into parts by copying the encoded data, so the parts line up frame for frame, nothing is re-encoded and no quality is lost. On a phone each part downloads with its own button; on a computer they come together in a ZIP. Sixty-second parts work for everyone; 90-second Status is still rolling out.

What You Get, and What It Doesn't Do Yet

Uploading: none, your video is edited and exported on your device. Watermark: none, at any resolution. Resolution: up to 1080p, as MP4 (H.264 + AAC) or WebM (VP9 + Opus), or the mixed sound alone as M4A. Account: none needed. Install: none, it runs in a browser tab on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Linux with a browser that supports WebCodecs. Layouts: the Frames panel places your video in phone or browser mock-ups with placeholder titles. What it doesn't do yet: stock media, stickers, automatic captions and 4K export.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free with no watermark?
Yes. Every feature is free: 1080p export, music, text, filters, transitions and WhatsApp Status parts. There is no Pro tier, no trial and no watermark on the exported video.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Your videos, photos and music are read from your device and edited inside your browser. Decoding and encoding are done by your device's own hardware video encoder (WebCodecs) and the picture is composed on its graphics chip. Nothing is sent to a server.
Is there a length or file-size limit?
There is no fixed cap. Your device's memory and storage are the limit: long 1080p videos work on a laptop, while very long 4K projects may be slow on a phone.
How do I make a Reel, Short or WhatsApp Status?
Pick the 9:16 format before or after adding your clips. Landscape clips get a blurred copy of themselves behind them instead of black bars (you can switch to Fit or Fill per clip). Export at 1080p for 1080×1920.
How do I split a long video for WhatsApp Status?
In Export, switch on WhatsApp Status parts and pick 30, 60 or 90 seconds. The video is rendered once with a key frame at every cut, then cut into parts without re-encoding, so the parts play back to back with nothing lost. 60 seconds works everywhere; 90-second Status is still rolling out.
Can I add background music and lower the original sound?
Yes. Add an MP3, M4A, WAV or other audio file from the Audio tab, then trim it, loop it to fill the video and fade it in and out. 'Lower music under original sound' drops the music to 30 % wherever a clip's own sound plays. Each clip also has its own volume (up to 200 %) and fades.
Which browsers work?
Chrome and Edge on computers and Android, and Safari 17 or newer on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Other browsers work if they can encode video with WebCodecs. The editor checks this when it opens: if your browser can't, the page says so before you start instead of failing halfway.
Will my project be saved if I close the tab?
Yes. The project is saved automatically in this browser, and your media files too when there's room. When you come back you can continue where you left off; any file that wasn't kept can be relinked by picking it again. Safari may clear saved data after a few days without a visit.
Can I write text in Tamil, Hindi or Telugu?
Yes. Text uses your device's own fonts and text engine, so Tamil, Hindi (Devanagari) and Telugu letters join correctly. There is an Indic text style, and you can mix English and Indian languages in one caption.
Is it a CapCut alternative?
For everyday edits, yes: trimming, splitting, speed, music, captions, filters, transitions, 9:16 and 1080p export, in a browser tab with no install, no account and no watermark. Its templates are device-frame layouts rather than effect templates, and it doesn't have stickers, stock media or automatic captions yet.
