Free Screen Recorder — Webcam, Audio, No Watermark
Record your screen, a window or tab with microphone, system audio and a webcam bubble. Trim and download. No install, no sign-up, no watermark — nothing uploaded.
About Screen Recorder
Records a screen, window or browser tab from a desktop browser, with your microphone, tab or system sound where the browser allows it, and an optional webcam overlay drawn into the video. Recordings are saved to a library in the browser as they are made, can be trimmed, and download as WebM or MP4 depending on what the browser records.
How to use Screen Recorder
- Choose what to record: Screen, or Camera only (which also works on phones and tablets). For screens you can also capture two displays at once, combined in one video or as separate files.
- Switch the microphone and webcam on or off, pick a quality profile (Standard 1080p 30 fps, High at source resolution and 60 fps, Low resource 720p 15 fps, or Audio focus), and choose a 0, 3 or 5 second countdown.
- Press Start (or Alt+R). In the browser's sharing dialog choose the screen, window or tab, and tick Share tab audio or Share system audio if you want computer sound.
- While recording, Alt+P pauses, Alt+M mutes the microphone and Alt+C toggles the webcam; the arrow keys move the webcam bubble.
- Stop, then trim the start and end in the library if needed and download. The original take is kept unchanged.
When it helps
Explaining a bug or a process to a colleague
Record the browser tab with your microphone and a small webcam circle in a corner. Tab capture records just that page, so notifications from other apps don't appear in the video.
Recording a lecture or webinar playing in a tab
In Chrome or Edge, share the tab and tick Share tab audio to capture its sound along with your own commentary. The two sources are mixed into one track with separate level controls.
Talking-head clips without screen capture
Camera only mode records the webcam and microphone, which is handy on a phone or tablet where browsers do not allow screen capture.
Tips
- Use Standard for most work; text stays sharp at 1080p and 30 fps. High is for fast motion and demos, and it produces much larger files.
- Window capture never includes sound. If you need audio from a video or meeting, capture the browser tab or, on Windows and ChromeOS, the entire screen.
- On macOS a web page can only capture audio from a browser tab, not from desktop apps. Play the source in a tab instead.
- Long sessions and dual-screen capture are smoother on the Low resource profile, particularly on older laptops.
- If the tab crashes or reloads mid-recording, reopen the page: the chunks already written to storage are offered for recovery.
Limitations
- Screen capture needs a desktop browser. Phones and tablets do not let web pages capture the screen, so only camera recording is available there.
- Firefox and Safari do not share tab or system audio with web pages; the microphone still works.
- Recording length is limited by the browser's storage quota and free disk space rather than a timer; the page warns when space is getting short.
- Trimming re-encodes the selected range (MP4 where WebCodecs can encode H.264 and AAC, otherwise WebM), which takes time on long recordings.
What happens to your files
Screen, camera and microphone streams are only opened after you grant permission in the browser's own prompt, and they are recorded by the browser's MediaRecorder on your device. Nothing is uploaded. While you record, each chunk is written to IndexedDB in this browser so a crash doesn't lose the take, and finished recordings stay in the in-page library until you delete them or clear the site's data. Webcam overlay and audio mixing are done locally on a canvas and with Web Audio; no audio is played back to your speakers during recording.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it really free with no watermark?
- Yes. No account, no watermark and no time limit set by us. Recordings are made and saved on your device.
- Is my recording uploaded?
- No. The screen, microphone and webcam are recorded inside your browser and the video stays on your device until you download or share it.
- Can it record system audio, like a YouTube video or Spotify?
- When your browser offers it. In Chrome and Edge, sharing a browser tab can include its sound, and on Windows sharing the entire screen can include system audio — tick 'Share audio' in the sharing dialog. Some browsers and macOS don't offer system audio; the recorder tells you when no audio track was shared.
- Can I show my face while recording?
- Yes. Turn on the camera and your face appears in a circle or rounded box in a corner you choose — it is part of the saved video, not just the preview.
- Which browsers work?
- Chrome and Edge on Windows, Mac and Linux give the most features. Firefox records the screen and microphone. Safari on Mac supports basic screen recording. Phones and tablets can't record their screen from a browser.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
- Is File Studio completely free?
- Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
- Does it work on mobile and tablet?
- Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
