About Reorder
Reorder Pages shows a PDF as a row of page cards that you drag, or move with arrow buttons, into a new order, then saves a copy with the pages in that sequence. Pages are copied without changes, so only their order differs.
How to use Reorder
- Drop in a PDF; each page appears as a numbered card.
- Drag a card to its new position, or use the up and down arrow buttons on a card to move it one place at a time.
- Use ↕ Reverse to flip the whole order, or ↺ Reset to go back to the original sequence.
- Click Apply New Order & Save, then download the file, which is named after the original with _reordered added.
When it helps
Fixing a stack scanned in reverse
Some document feeders output the last page first. Reverse fixes the whole file in one click.
Interleaving a manual duplex scan
If you scanned all fronts and then all backs, the backs end up as a separate block. Move each back page after its front to rebuild the reading order.
Moving a section to the front
Putting a summary or the signed declaration page first, as some forms ask, is a few drags instead of re-exporting the document.
Tips
- On a phone or tablet, drag a page by its grip (the dotted handle) or long-press the page, then slide it into place; the page list scrolls by itself near the screen edge.
- For big moves in a long PDF, Split's Extract mode accepts a typed order such as 10-12, 1-9, 13-20 and can be faster than dragging.
- Reverse followed by a few manual moves is often the quickest path for a stack that is mostly backwards.
- Page numbers printed on the pages themselves don't change. If the document has printed numbering, you may want to add fresh numbers afterwards with Page Numbers.
- The card numbers show each page's original position, which makes it easy to check the new sequence against a list before saving.
Limitations
- It works on one PDF at a time. To combine files and arrange their pages, use Merge, which also lets you reorder pages within each file.
- Reordering can't remove or rotate pages; use Delete Pages or Rotate for those.
- Bookmarks and the document outline are not kept in the reordered copy.
- Encrypted PDFs need to be unlocked first.
What happens to your files
Your PDF is read and rearranged in your browser and written back as a new file without contacting any server. The source and the reordered copy are kept in the File Studio workspace in IndexedDB on this device until you remove them, and the download happens only when you click Download.

Drag and Drop Pages to Change Order
File Studio's visual reorder interface displays every page as a draggable thumbnail card. Simply grab a page and move it to its new position. The interface updates in real time, showing you the exact page sequence before you save. This intuitive approach is dramatically faster than using command-line tools or memorising page number sequences for reordering operations.
Fix Scan Order and Reorganize Sections
This tool works on one PDF at a time (to combine several files, use Merge). Beyond simple reordering, you can use it to organise pages from documents that were scanned out of order, fix collation errors from duplex scanning, or rearrange sections of a report for a different audience. The drag-and-drop interface handles all of these scenarios without requiring any technical knowledge.
Works Offline — Zero Server Uploads
Once the reorder tool has loaded in your browser, reordering itself needs no internet connection: no step of the process contacts a server. This is particularly useful in environments with limited connectivity — government offices, rural areas, or secure facilities where internet access is restricted. Your documents remain entirely on your device throughout the process.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I reorder pages in a PDF for free?
- Upload your PDF to File Studio. Drag and drop the page thumbnails (or use the arrow buttons) into the new order you want, then click Apply New Order & Save and download your rearranged PDF.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
- Is File Studio completely free?
- Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
- Does it work on mobile and tablet?
- Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
