About Split PDF

Split cuts one PDF into smaller PDFs in three ways: one file per page, one file per range you type, or a single file made of the pages you pick. Pages are copied, not re-rendered, so the output looks exactly like the source pages.

How to use Split PDF

  1. Open a PDF by dropping it in or choosing it from your workspace.
  2. Pick a Split Mode. All Pages makes one PDF for every page. By Range makes one PDF per range. Extract makes one PDF from the pages you list.
  3. For By Range, type ranges separated by commas, such as 1-3, 5, 7-9; that example produces three files. For Extract, type the pages you want, such as 1, 3, 5-7, and they go into a single file.
  4. Click Split & Save to Workspace. Each output downloads as soon as it is ready, named after your file with _part1, _part2 and so on, or _extracted when there is only one output.

When it helps

Uploading parts to separate form fields

Some forms want the ID proof, the address proof and the certificate as separate uploads, while you have them in one scan. By Range with 1, 2-3, 4 gives you three ready files in one go.

Pulling a few pages out of a long statement

Extract with 1, 4, 12 creates a short PDF containing just the pages someone actually asked for, instead of sending the full statement.

Breaking a bundle into per-page files

All Pages is handy for a scanned stack of single-page invoices or forms that each need to be filed or emailed separately.

Tips

Limitations

What happens to your files

The PDF is opened and split inside your browser tab, and each part is written straight to your downloads folder, so nothing is uploaded. The source file and every part are also stored in the File Studio workspace in this browser's IndexedDB, depending on your workspace settings, until you delete them there.

Extract Specific Pages by Number or Range

File Studio's split tool gives you precise control over which pages you extract. Enter page ranges like '1-3, 5, 8-10' and the tool creates a new PDF containing only those pages. This is perfect for pulling specific sections from lengthy reports, extracting a single form from a multi-page government document, or isolating relevant pages from a scanned booklet. Ranges that run backwards or point past the last page are skipped, so check that the number of files you get matches the ranges you typed.

Split Every Page Into Separate PDF Files

Need each page as its own file? Select 'All Pages' mode and File Studio generates one PDF per page, each saved as its own download (your browser may ask once to allow multiple downloads). This is commonly used by teachers breaking apart exam papers, accountants separating invoice pages, and designers extracting individual slides from a PDF presentation. Each output file is named after the original with _part1, _part2 and so on for easy organisation.

Safe for Bank Statements and Legal Documents

Splitting sensitive documents like bank statements, tax returns, or court filings requires absolute privacy. File Studio processes your PDF entirely within your browser — the document never touches any external server. Unlike cloud-based splitters that upload your file to remote infrastructure, our local-first approach means your financial data, personal information, and confidential legal content remain exclusively on your device throughout the entire operation.

Split PDF on Mobile — No App Needed

You do not need to install a dedicated app to split PDFs on your phone. File Studio works directly in your mobile browser on both Android and iOS. Simply open the tool, tap to upload your PDF, select your split mode, and download the results. The responsive interface adapts to smaller screens, making it easy to use on the go — whether you are commuting, in a meeting, or at a government office.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF online for free?
Upload your PDF to File Studio, choose your split method (by page range, extract specific pages, or split every page), then click Split. Your files download instantly. No account needed, no upload to any server.
How do I extract specific pages from a PDF?
Upload the PDF and enter the page numbers you want in the range field — for example '1-3, 5, 8-10'. File Studio will create a new PDF containing only those pages. Download it in seconds.
Can I split a PDF into individual pages?
Yes. Select 'All Pages' to create one separate PDF file for each page. Each file downloads separately, named _part1, _part2 and so on.
Is it safe to split bank statements or Aadhaar PDFs?
Yes. File Studio never uploads your files. The split operation runs entirely in your browser, so sensitive pages from bank statements or identity documents are never exposed to any server.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not directly — the split tool doesn't ask for a password. If you know the password, remove it first with Unlock PDF (also on your device), then split the unlocked copy.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
Is File Studio completely free?
Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
Does it work on mobile and tablet?
Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
