Rotate PDF Online Free — Fix Page Orientation Instantly
Rotate PDF pages 90° or 180°. Fix upside down scans, rotate individual pages or all at once. Free, no upload. No quality loss.
About Rotate
Rotate fixes sideways or upside-down pages by changing each page's rotation setting in the PDF, in 90° steps. The page content itself is not redrawn or re-compressed, so scans and text look exactly as before, just the right way up.
How to use Rotate
- Drop in a PDF. Every page appears as a thumbnail, and the header shows how many pages are currently set to rotate.
- Choose the direction with ↻ CW (clockwise) or ↺ CCW (counter-clockwise).
- Click a page thumbnail to turn that page 90° in the chosen direction. Click again for 180°, or switch direction to undo a step.
- Use Rotate All to turn every page at once, and Reset to clear all changes.
- Click Apply Rotations & Save to Workspace, then Download Rotated PDF.
When it helps
Mixed portrait and landscape scans
A scanner feeding a stack with a few landscape tables usually gives those pages sideways. Rotate only those pages and leave the rest untouched.
A whole document scanned upside down
Click Rotate All twice for a 180° turn. This is common when a stack goes into a document feeder the wrong way round.
Fixing orientation before other steps
Rotate before using Pages per Sheet or Split Page in Half, so the preview in those tools shows pages the way you expect.
Tips
- The rotation is added to any rotation the page already has, so judge by the thumbnail, not by what you think the page's original setting was.
- Four clicks bring a page back to where it started; the counter of rotated pages drops back too.
- If you only need a few pages turned in a long file, scroll the thumbnails rather than using Rotate All and then undoing pages.
- Phone camera scans often look correct in the gallery but sideways in a PDF, because the photo's orientation tag was lost when the PDF was made. Rotate fixes the PDF without rescanning.
- Rotation doesn't change the page size or file quality, so it is safe to run before compressing; the compressed file keeps the corrected orientation.
Limitations
- Only 90°, 180° and 270° turns are possible. A slightly tilted (skewed) scan cannot be straightened here.
- Rotation is a viewing instruction stored with the page. Nearly every reader honours it, but a few older tools that read raw page content may still show the original orientation.
- The file is re-saved, so its bytes change even though the page content doesn't; any digital signature on the original will no longer validate.
- Encrypted PDFs should be unlocked first; otherwise the output may not open correctly.
What happens to your files
Thumbnails are drawn and the rotation is written by JavaScript in your browser, so the PDF is never sent anywhere. The original and the rotated copy are kept in the File Studio workspace in this browser's IndexedDB until you remove them; the rotated file is only downloaded when you click Download Rotated PDF.
Rotate Individual Pages or All Pages at Once
File Studio's rotate tool lets you fix page orientation with surgical precision. Choose clockwise or counter-clockwise, then click a page thumbnail to turn just that page by 90° — perfect for fixing a single sideways scan in an otherwise correct document. Click twice for a 180° flip. Or use 'Rotate All' to turn every page at once when an entire document was scanned in the wrong orientation.
Fix Upside Down and Sideways Scanned Documents
Scanner misfeeds and inconsistent document orientations are common frustrations. File Studio handles them effortlessly. Upload your problematic PDF, preview the page thumbnails to identify which pages need correction, and apply the appropriate rotation. The visual preview ensures you get the orientation right on the first attempt, saving time and avoiding trial-and-error with command-line tools.
Zero Quality Loss — Only Orientation Metadata Changed
When File Studio rotates a PDF page, it modifies only the page's rotation metadata — a single number in the PDF structure. The actual page content, including text, images, and vector graphics, is completely untouched. There is no re-rendering, no re-compression, and no quality degradation. The file is re-saved, so its bytes are not identical to the original, but the page content is unchanged, so nothing you see loses quality.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I rotate a PDF online for free?
- Upload your PDF to File Studio, choose clockwise (CW) or counter-clockwise (CCW), then click a page thumbnail to turn it 90°. Use 'Rotate All' to turn every page at once. Click Apply Rotations, then download your corrected PDF.
- Does rotating a PDF reduce its quality?
- No. We only modify the rotation metadata in the PDF. The actual content — images, text, graphics — is completely untouched. No re-encoding happens, so quality is 100% preserved.
- Can I rotate just some pages and not others?
- Yes. Click only the page thumbnails you want to turn; each click rotates that page by 90°. Other pages remain unchanged.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. File Studio is built on a strict local-first architecture. Every PDF operation — merging, splitting, compressing, redacting — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer. You can even disconnect your internet after the page loads and the tools will continue working perfectly.
- Is File Studio completely free?
- Yes, 100% free with no limits. There are no file size caps, no daily limits, no watermarks added to your output, and no account or email required. All tools are free forever.
- Does it work on mobile and tablet?
- Yes. File Studio is fully responsive and works on Android and iOS browsers. All processing happens locally on your phone's or tablet's hardware.
